Documentation for older PB versions

$

Dear all,

I start this thread in order to ask if it is possible to access documentation & supported platforms resources for older PowerBuilder versions (5, 7, 8, 9).

In Infocenter Archieve, I have found documentation for PowerBuilder 10.2.1 -> 12.1

In SAP Help Portal, the available documentation covers versions 12.5 -> 12.6

Any other information will be highly appreciated.

Kind regards,

PowerBuilder 12.5 license

My company purchased a license of PowerBuilder 12.5.  I am moving to another computer and I tried to log into mysybase to get it figured out how to move it and it appears they have moved to SAP.  I called and they can see my company, but not any maintenance agreement.  So, the lady suggested I create a login on SAP and post a question to see if anyone knows what I can do to get the license moved to my new computer.

Any help would be most appreciated!

Thanks,

Problem displaying decimals in PB app on Windows 2008 R2

$

We are having an issue on our database server when we run our PowerBuilder 12 application on it.

Our set up is that we have about 25 client 64 and 32 bit Windows 7 workstations running this PowerBuilder application with an oracle 9i client, and a Windows 2008 R2 dev/test server with an oracle 11 Database and client (32 bit) running the PowerBuilder application, and lastly a windows 2008 R2 production database server running Oracle 11 database and client (also have a 9i client on there as well for testing).

Basically the problem is (which only happens on the production server), whereever we have a decimal(2) field in a window, the number which should be displayed as 750.50 is being displayed as 75050 etc....  When we put a decimal and currency format on the field (an edit field) the value will always just have a .00 at the end and again numbers like $750.50 will appear as $75050.00. The decimal place is being dropped completely for no apparent reason (and a new decimal place is being added to the end of the number).  On fields that are text fields were number get displayed, this numbers appear fine.

We have in the past notice this very rarely on workstations when the Windows regional settings were not set as English(United States).  We would then just reimage the machine (since it was only a workstation) and set the region as English(United States) during the operating system installation, and things would be good again.  The problem now is that we cannot just reimage our database server as it is our database server and we are in a 24/7 environment...

We did try to change the regional settings on our production database server to see it would then show the columns correctly, but it did not make any difference.  We contacted Microsoft technical support, but they have been unhelpful and suggest that PowerBuilder is the problem (despite the fact that on our other servers and workstations with the US regional settings, it works fine).

Can anybody tell me if you have experienced this issue before and if so, what you did to resolve it please?  We are hoping to avoid rebuilding our database server and being down for a couple of days...

Thank You.

Datawindow print preview truncating large trailers and summary...

$

I've been able to reproduce this in PowerBuilder Classic 12.6 Build 4035.  This may have been reported at some point, but hard to search on specifics in here.  Any search tips are always welcome!

As topic indicates, datawindow print preview mode is not quite working 100% as it should...  large trailers and summary get cutoff in print preview mode.

To reproduce, simply create a free form datawindow, with your choice of data, where you can create at least 4 groupings or more.  The more groupings you create, the more the problem presents itself.  Expand detail area and all trailers and summary to at least 4 inches EACH.  Retrieve your data.

Datawindow in preview mode in the designer displays your data without a problem..  Scrolling through there, not a problem, you can see all of the detail, trailers and summary.  Now switch over into print preview mode.  One or more of the trailers, and the summary are cut off, and print preview reports only the number of pages that are displaying.  Adding in page numbers will confirm this issue.  When you print the report, it prints out the remaining pages of trailer and summary like it's supposed to.

Now imagine this for a boatload of data...  customers dont want to have to print out to a pdf file first, and "then" view the data.  And we don't want to allow them to switch into normal view mode on the datawindow.  Ya, displaying in normal mode, or print to pdf or to the printer to see the real results is a workaround, but would be nice to fix what's broken.  Otherwise, kinda kills the usefulness of the print preview mode if it doesn't actually preview the way it's going to actually print.

Anyone run across this, or have other suggested workarounds, or fixes I haven't explored yet?

Thanks guys!

PowerBuilder 12.6 crash on SCC / MKS connect after MKS upgrade

$

We were working fine on PB 9.0, and 12.6, using the SCC interface to connect with MKS source control.  There were the occasional odd errors popping out here and there, but it was working.

They just upgraded to a new server for MKS, forcing us to uninstall MKS, and reinstall it.  After that, some of our machines have been exhibiting odd behavior, with PowerBuilder closing / crashing right after they successfully establish a connection to MKS.  No error message, nothing.  I turned on the Log All Activity flag in the Source Control tab.

------------------------------

I've tried compatibility settings, desktop settings turning Aero off, and same behavior.  The fact a few other machines don't have this problem is just really bizarre.  We've tried importing our Sandboxes, recreating our Sandboxes, etc, and just can't figure out what's going on.  There were some blogs I found about the PBC file possibly getting corrupt, but at this point, the PBC file doesn't even show up.  It's like it connects, and about that time is when it normally would do a refresh of the object states, but instead PowerBuilder just quits.  I'm getting the security folks to allow me to disable Symantec temporarily so I can check to see if it's interfering somehow, however I think it's not, but I'll give it a shot to make sure I rule it out.  I will say that the machines that it's failing on seem to be newer machines.  That would be really odd it was some type of combo about the machine causing the issue.  But I've seen other odd things before, like the video card interfering with the ability to add report parameters to a datawindow!

I'm in the process of trying to convince management to allow us to switch to TFS.  Otherwise we're faced with going PB Native, and I really do not want to lose version control, rollback, and history storage and comparison abilities to name a few.

Anyone run into this issue before, and fixed it?  Again, some machines, it's still working fine.  Just very odd.  Any drawbacks to going TFS via SCC?

ORCASCR9 - Scc Get Latest version - PowerBuilder9

Hello Community, I'm trying to make the automation of processes from SCC version control "PB Native" in PowerBuiilder9. And I have generated the structure and ficehros necessary, but there is a process orcascr9, not if I use it well, or is there something that overlooks ... I've created a workspace with a single SCC for testing, but if I change an object in a workspace, the process of "soc get latest version", does not incorporate changes me. I tried with all combinations of parameters for "scc set target" without success. When performing llamda set target, the librarylist inicialida correctly and the library of the target and the app, but that's all it does, in no time the process of linking the local project with the repository is done ... I followed this call, execute the instruction scc full refresh target, but does not perform any action, (I guess it's because they have not imported objects from the repository of the SCC) Agradecezco in advance any suggestion respuets, etc ... If I was wrong POST for this article, and you know where I can post this question, please let me know ... GetFileOpenName() - random hard crashes on Citrix

$

Our application is compiled in PowerBuilder 12.5 build 4595.

We are getting random hard crashes when browsing using the GetFileOpenName() open file dialog box while in Citrix.  Fault Module Names are sometimes thumbcache.dll & sometimes NetworkExplorer.dll.  It seems to have something to do with network drives, but again it appears to be random.  We have tried using the TopWiz equivalent dialog box but it crashes as well.  Other applications such as Notepad do not have this problem.  Has anyone else experienced this or any ideas of what we can do?

Powerbuilder 12.5 Oracle error 28002 during execute immediate

$

I'm using Powerbuilder v 12.5 with an Oracle database.  I discovered a problem after upgrading Oracle database from 11.2.0.3 to 11.2.0.4.  I wrote a small Powerbuilder application to demonstrate this.  The application logs in as a user whose expiry_date is in the past, but whose account status is "OPEN" based on a query against the data dictionary view DBA_USERS.  After logging in the application performs an ALTER USER <user> IDENTIFIED BY <new password> REPLACE <old password>.  It does this via EXECUTE IMMEDIATE <stmt> USING SQLCA.  After this statement completes, the user's password is successfully changed in Oracle but the SQLCA object returns a -1 in its SQLCODE member.  The SQLCA.SQLDBCODE is set to 28002 and the SQLCA.SQLERRTEXT has the message "ORA-28002: the password will expire within 10 days".

When I run the same application using Oracle 11.2.0.3 and the same user in the same state, the SQLCA.SQLCODE is 0.  This behavior is obviously different from 11.2.0.4.

The same issue occurs with Powerbuilder 11.5.

We are using the SQLCA.DBMS="010 Oracle10g (10.1.0)".

I also tested it with the newer SQLCA.DBMS="ORA Oracle11g" for Powerbuilder 12.5.  This string doesn't work in Powerbuilder 11.5.

Oracle claims that there are no differences between 11.2.0.3 and 11.2.0.4.

I'm wondering if Powerbuilder does an internal Oracle version check during EXECUTE IMMEDIATE ... USING SQLCA.

Sure we can code around it but that means rebuilding and testing our applications and redelivering them.  But, we would like to avoid that if possible.

If there is something simple we can do to mitigate this behavior such as using a different DBMS string or changing the Oracle DLL that would help us out tremendously.

Thanks and best regards,

Will

I can't seem to figure out how to get the latest EBF for PB.  I have 12.6 build 3506 (which I'm pretty sure is really buggy).  Is there another newer build? If so how do i get it?

Thanks.

Stop application from terminating

Can anyone please help me how would I stop PB application from terminating? e.g if we have the application open and in a screen, a field is not found, it would display message "null object reference found at line XXXX...." and the application would terminate.

Is there a way to maybe close just the screen(maybe a popup window) where termination happened and let the main window still open?

SQLCA.of_Connect

If I have a window open with an active datawindow and in my script for that window I call a connect to the database as per the function in the title of this post does it clear the transaction object for the open datawindow or will it be unaffected?

I'm trying to detect when I've lost connection to the database and then reconnect but I'm not sure if I need to reset the transaction objects for any active DW/DS.

Thanks for the help.

Saving a sheet in excel work book as txt file.

I am trying to save a specific sheet, for example sheet#3 of an Excel worksheet to a tab delimited txt file in PowerBuild 12.0 using OLE Object.

The code I used: myoleobject.ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs(lsFileNameTxt, -4158)  saved a different sheet than #3.

When I tried other methods such as myoleobject.ActiveSheet.SaveAs(lsFileNameTxt, -4158), or myoleobject.Application.WorkBooks(1).WorkSheets(liIdx_DataSheet).SaveAs(lsFileNameTxt, -4158), I got errors.

Please help...

Thanks, Ping

I need help for random error null object access

$

I have a problem with an application that works without problems and is constantly used, but once to three times per day have a random error of access to objects that are null.

For example in the following code:

try

    If isnull (object_ole) then

       MessageBox ("Error", "Null Object")

    End if

catch

End Try

The error occurs on the line "If isnull (object_ole) then" in error access to null object. It also gives the same with instance variables, not only with OLE objects. And at other times the error are PBVM126.dll sybase libraries with Windows c000005 message.

Any help will be useful to me

thank you very much

Can not change TabBackcolor on Tabpage

$

Hello,

I have a problem setting the tabbackcolor property of a tabpage.

Here is the code I am using in the selectionchanged event:

ll_tabcount = upperbound(this.control)

if oldindex > 0 and oldindex <= ll_tabcount then

  this.control[oldindex].tabbackcolor = RGB(163,202,240)

end if

if newindex > 0 and newindex <= ll_tabcount then

  this.control[newindex].tabbackcolor = RGB(100,165,230)

end if

I also tried to use a button to set the tabbackcolor of the selected tabpage.

But it makes no difference.

Setting the color via painter also doesn't work.

I migrated a project from Powerbuilder 10.5.1 to Powerbuilder 12.6 Build 4058.

Setting the tabbackcolor in Powerbuilder 10.5.1 works like a charm.

Any help or workaround would be nice.

Thanks in advance.

Please don't tell me to switch Windows Classic Design. There is no Classic Design in Windows 8 and 10.

AND this is definitly not expected behaviour, it's a BUG !!!
