PB 12.6 - MDI Dock Help - Activate does not fire

I'm experimenting with the new dockable MDI windows in PB 12.6 Classic and have run into a problem at the first hurdle.

 

We use the PFC. I have changed the base frame class pfc_w_frame from Window Type mdihelp! to mdidockhelp! but now the activate event is not firing on that object.

 

Activate on the ancestor class pfc_w_master is still firing correctly.

 

At first I thought it was a regen error but a Full Build does not help.

 

The PB 12.5.2 - 12.6 migration completed without error and the app works fine without alteration.

 

Has anyone run into this issue?

Does anyone have any pointers on converting an old MDI app to an MDI Dock?

Crosstab datawindow problem PB11.5

Hello!

 

I have crosstab datawindow with added TEXT fields for each column fields (red text in attached bmp). It must be placed vertical from current column values in the same row.

Values for this text fields are computed as current sum - vertical.

When I insert COMPUTED field than powerbuilder allways insert it in horizontal direction - insert new grid column in grid crosstab datawindow.

Only text field can be added verticaly to original columns.

 

Is there any other way to show two fields in vertical order in one row in crosstab datawindow?

How to prevent crosstab datawindow repaints?

PoweBuilder 12.5 will not load/run

I had been making changes in Powerbuilder 12.5 under Windows 8 a couple of days ago and had opened and closed the Powerbuilder many times throughout the day. I was testing my changes and the program appeared to be in a loop so I shut down the application by pressing the "Close button". This killed the process.

 

However, when I tried to open Powerbuilder 12.5 again I got the message "Sybase Powerbuilder 12.5 has stopped working". This message then disappears and another appears stating:

"Sybase Powerbuilder 12.5 has stopped working

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.

Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is

available".

This screen has the buttons "Debug" and "Close Program". Clicking either of these buttons results in Powerbuilder being closed immediately with no indication of how to resolve the problem.

 

I found some information on-line and scanned for viruses as suggested to no avail. I also ran the troubleshoot program options under Windows without success.

 

I tried to re-run the Setup process to see if I could repair some problems however this will not work either since this problem emerged. When I right-click on the program in "Programs and Features" and select "Change" a message appears asking:

"Do you want to completely removed the selected application and all of its features?"

It should actually take me to a setup screen with options to "Remove, Change, etc".

 

Anyone got any ideas on what is causing this and/or how I resolve it.

No Error Message given at problem code - PB 12.5.2

I've just purchase and upgraded to PB12.5.2. I'm running on Windows 8. 

 

When testing the application I'm maintaining, if there is a bug in the code, say, 'invalid row/column', the test-run of the application either freezes or shuts down:  no error message is given. 

 

If I put breakpoints in the code and step through the problem area, when I get to the problem code-row, the step-through process stops at that row and, if I click to go past it, the screen dims and refreshes.  The pointer remains at that point.

ParentWindow() return Null Object Reference In PB12.6

Hi,

     When I opened a sheet by 'OpenSheetwithParmAsDocument' ,the function ParentWindow() can not return the mdi frame object. But when I use 'OpenSheetwithParm', ParentWindow() can return the mdi frame object. Why?

How to restore object

Hi All,

 

During a full rebuild it seems that all objects were removed from my development.pbl!?

However I have a powerbuilder backup file.

How could I import/restore that to my development.pbl?

Never used PowerBuilder

Hey PowerBuilder Community,

 

I'm a web app guy, ColdFusion, PHP, ASP .NET and stuff, but I am inheiriting two PowerBuilder 10 apps into the group of applications that I support.  I need a couple quick answers, and will be back here often to learn.

 

1) Can I use the current release of PowerBuilder tools to support my applications that are written in 10.5, or do I need to get an older release of the software?

 

2) Where can I get the software I need?

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Questions about adding PB licenses and contact list

1. How do you go about adding an additional PB license in the SAP days? we tried several dead end #s. CIC doesn't seem to care for a single additional license. Please help. We do pay annual contract to Sybase, now SAP.

 

2. One more problem we have is that, the contact list we had with Sybase is so outdated the original developers are gone and I am trying add myself to it, they are giving a run around. Our infrastructure is on the Sybase contact list, when he called CIC, they told him to find the main SAP contact here at the customer site (they wouldn't tell us or gave the wrong name). City of Los Angeles is such a large org. it's going to be hard to find that. Does anyone have any suggestion for this bind we are in?

 

I just tried an online chat with SAP support. Though it comes up quickly and the person was cordial, it was a useless chat. He sent me a # for volume sales. I will try, but I wonder if the volume sales person will be laughing at our one or 2 extra license request.


Note: We used Compucomm to purchase our licenses in the past, but even they are not able to figure this out.

Power Builder 12.5.2 with Oracle Client 64Bit

Hi all

I have installed Sysbase 12.5.2. The Installation goes fine without any errors.

Now, I would like connect with a Oracle Database 11g 64 Bit, the Oracle Client is also 64 Bit.
a) The PB – Database Profile – is ORA Oracle
b) Server, Login ID(Oracle User) are correct

But, I can't connect to the Database with PB (with sqlplus, Toad etc. form Oracle everything works fine)
The error Message is: Oracle Library OCI.DLL could not be loaded

Richtext text style -does not display old data

Hi,
I have changed property of text field from text field to Rich text field. Now it is not showing old data. But i am able to create new rich text data, save data and view new data.

 

Back end used is Sybase 15 and it is tied to PowerBuilder 12.5

 

Please help me, how can i see old data in this field?

Moving to Unicode - Issues with String Functions LenA, MidA, etc.

I have a legacy application that has been migrated to PB 12.5.  When it was migrated from version 9 to 10, the DBSC string manipulation was used (LenA, MidA, RightA, etc.) because strings were to be converted.  My issue is that we are now interested in changing the application to use Unicode and I'm concerned that these functions will create problems for us going forward.  I would like to revert all the string functions back to the Len, Mid, Right, etc. functions, but I cannot come up with solution for reverting the code back.

 

Any suggestions?

Can we install Sysam license server on a Virtual Machine?

We are trying to move our Sysam Licence server to a new server running on Virtual Machine. The problem we are having: sysam start returns an error saying ‘service is not responding to the control function’. We have the new generated license file place in licenses sub-folder, and host id and host name all matched with new machine info.

 

 

Is it possible to install Sysam license server on a Virtual Machine?

 

 

I noticed the host id from physical machine and virtual machine are in different format.

Host id on virtual machine: 005056800187

Host id on physical machine: "001a646803fa 00101825de68"

Unintended gap between nested reports in PowerBuilder Classic

I have 3 freeform datawindows, named A, B and C. C is a nested report of B, B is a nested report of A and A is a main report.

 

Report A is very simple, and has only one nested report B in it (in real life there are more, but one is enough to show my point).

 

Report B has a header, and in details band has many copies of C so that report B does not fit a single page (in real life there are many different reports, this is just for simplicity).

 

Now if I preview report B, everything is OK, I see the header on every page, and nicely arranged nested reports, but if I preview report A, on the second and later pages there is a gap the size of B header between first and second nested reports of that page:

Tested with PowerBuilder 11.5 and latest PowerBuilder 12.6 Classic.

I have been working in PB since 1997, based on my experience it's a great programming tool, deliver the high end user interface and easy for maintenance.  But the company that I work is in process to finding a new programming tool because they beleive that Powerbuilder is a old tool ,

hard to find programmers,  not easy to maintain too..  They want to also move client/server application to web, mobile, cloud..

Please can any of expert tell me whether it's a good idea to migrate PB to Java or something else..

I am not sure whether should stay with PB since there are lot nice things are going on with PB , Appeon and all other powerbuiler supporting tools.

I have feelings that SAP is not making moves fast enough.. I also have confident that SAP will bring PB as top 1 programming tool.

Need temporary license formatted correctly

I've been provided a second temporary license and am receiving a syntax error when attempting to validate my license.

I ran into this issue once before and someone here was kind enough to format my license correctly. Can someone do this again?

Powerbuilder export multi-language to Excel

Hi

 

my application require to export chinese / japanese characters to excel.

but the output on exlce display as "????".

 

i have managed to input & display the chinese/japanese on the powerbuilder application ( pb12.5 classic ) and saved to oracle database but faced problems when exporting the data from datawindow to excel.

 

below are scripts.

 

gole_obj = create oleobject

gole_obj.ConnectToNewObject("excel.application")

lole_sheet = gole_obj.Application.ActiveWorkbook.WorkSheets[vin_cur]

Can't Capture Identity in ODBC Connection to MS SQL Server 2014

We have two environments we are working in.

 

Our in-house development environment is SQL Server 2012 Standard, another is 2014 Enterprise.  We have a 64 bit Classic 12.6 PB app.

 

On the 2012 version we have no problems getting an identity for a table populated in the datawindow after an update.

 

On the other (with the same client ODBC Driver) we can seem to get the value populated.

 

Any suggestions as to what the problem might be?
